Rev. Cynthia Snavely, Guest Minister
Twentieth century American poet Anne Sexton wrote, “The joy that isn’t shared, I’ve heard dies young.” Sharing our joys with others is one way to express and nurture our gratitude for our lives.

Rev. Snavely began her ministry in 1984 as a United Methodist. She became a Unitarian Universalist minister in the mid-1990s. She has served congregations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Florida, and New Jersey. She has one daughter and five grandchildren.

The Value of Music for All
Jo Grazide
This presentation will include scientific evidence that music benefits us in many ways whether we sing, play an instrument, or simply enjoy listening! We will explore personal experiences and attitudes towards this activity versus self-defeating ideas as we look at new inspiration and communication – both personal and professional.
Jo Grazide enjoys photography, drawing, and playing the ukulele. Jo grew up in Brooklyn but has lived in Middletown for many years. She now lives in Tinton Falls and spends her time teaching art subjects and leading a small ukulele group.

November Theme: NURTURING GRATITUDE
It’s not what we have that constitutes our abundance, but what we appreciate.
We enter the world as strangers who all at once become heirs to a harvest of memory, spirit, and dream that has long preceded us and will now enfold, nourish, and sustain us. The gift of the world is our first blessing.
It could happen any time, tornado, earthquake… Or sunshine, love, salvation… That’s why we wake and look out — no guarantees in this life. But some bonuses, like morning, like right now.
So much has been given to me; I have no time to ponder over that which has been denied.
Happiness does not make us grateful, gratefulness makes us happy.
When you are with someone who has developed the habit of gratitude, you SO want what they have. They are not grasping for more. They are savoring, shaking their heads slightly with the quietest wonder.
You wander from room to room, hunting for the diamond necklace that is already around your neck!
With gratitude, optimism is sustainable. If you can find something to be grateful for then you can find something to look forward to, and you can carry on.
