By Rev. Virginia Jarocha-Ernst’s dog

Dear friends,

Rev. Virginia asked me to fill in this month to discuss this theme of good and evil.  My name is Aurora. I’m a 13-year-old Siberian Husky. Some people say I am the very embodiment of good and evil.  I am pure black and white (no shades of gray). I am known to be willful and disobedient in the eyes of the people around me.  I never miss walking through a puddle but I hate baths.  I would rather be outside almost any day except when it is very hot.  If you wore a fur coat, you would feel that way, too!  Snow is my favorite flavor.  Food is the most important moral issue in my life and the issue is... it’s all mine. I am dangerous and beautiful, and I must be told I am good often.

The fact is I am just part of nature, and nature is amoral.  The ideas of good and evil are made up by human beings – not dogs or gods.  Of course, this does not mean good and evil don’t exist!  You see, people created good and evil, and they are experts at both.  I’m just saying good and evil have nothing to do with me at all, despite what Virginia says.

That’s all you need to know about good and evil.  I’m looking forward to some snow this month, and don’t forget to feed me.

Happy New Year!

Aurora
