On Sunday, October 10, members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County in Lincroft participated in writing more than 80 letters to climate negotiators, legislators, and regulators demanding action against human-caused global warming and climate change. A specific energy-saving program of carpooling to the Meetinghouse was also initiated. These activities were organized for October 10, 2010 (“10/10/10”) as part of the nationwide appeal by Bill McKibben and website 350.org.
The Sunday service on 10/10/10, celebrating UN Sunday, was based on the theme chosen by the Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office, “Ethical Aspects of a Climate Treaty”. Previously the congregation had adopted as policy a strong statement urging action to counter global warming and climate change through individual and collective activities.
