I am writing to you this rainy November day from a cozy couch and a warm fire place at Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center. I am on day two of a three-day training on Teacher Development. Our first topic to tackle is teaching as transformation for teachers and students. We UUs know how to start a thing off on a light note!
The focus of Religious Education in our denomination is changing. Religious Education is no longer just for the kids. Religious learning and growth is lifespan, as we continue learning throughout our whole lives. Our focus has also shifted from a focus on “teaching” Unitarian Universalism to supporting and fostering the concept of faith development. So that means that religious education has to be more than classes and curricula. It is the way in which we gain knowledge and experience our own spiritual journey, which is different for each person.
Our journeys may differ but UUCMC offers many tools (Covenant Circles, Sunday Service, Dialog, Fellowship Friday to name a few) to help you along the way. Whether you are the teacher or the student, I hope your journey is filled with many opportunities for transformation.
In service, Michelle
