SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Youth Group—Sunday Evenings 7-9 pm

This group consists of 9th to 12th graders. Each week there is a social time, checking in, and meeting time. There are five components of a balanced youth group-Worship, Community Building, Social Action, Learning, and Leadership. The youth group has several overnights during the year, and attend youth ‘cons’, conferences, with other youth from the tri-state area, and some national events.  We are thrilled that one of our youth and one advisor serve on the district Youth Adult Committee. This group meets in the Edgewood House, lower level, in the back parking lot, on the second and fourth Sundays.

Summer Fun RE

Regular children’s religious education classes are not held during the summer. Instead, we have more informal activities. They vary from year to year, and from the adult volunteers who lead the group. There has been balloon animal making, cartooning, sing-a-longs, Harry Potter activities, cooking, juggling. Watch for the announcements in the spring for details. No registration is required; this is a drop-in program.

Summer Kids’ Camp

This program, Chalice Day Camp for 1st to 6th graders, is held during the last week in August. It is a great way to get back together with UUCMC friends, learn more about Unitarian Universalism, and have a lot of fun. Watch for flyers, registration forms, and announcements in the spring.

RITES OF PASSAGE

Child Dedications are a uniquely Unitarian Universalist ceremony of naming which offers parents the opportunity to present their child(ren) to the congregation. This ceremony of naming celebrates the ongoing mystery of human life, welcomes the child into our religious community, and publicly affirms the responsibility of parents and the congregation to help the child grow in ways of love, truth, justice, and peace. Please contact Rev. Kathleen Hepler to discuss Child Dedications.

Coming of Age ceremony is a passage celebrated by UUCMC with its 7th & 8th grade youth who are participants in the Coming of Age program. The program helps youth through the difficult transition between childhood and adulthood. Coming of Age students have the opportunity to share with their mentors some of the issues and questions addressed in their class: Am I a Unitarian Universalist? What does being UU mean to me? Is there a god? It also allows them to give voice to their own spiritual needs in a way that inspires, excites, and empowers them. The class culminates in an awesome worship service conducted totally by COA youth. The COA program is offered every other year.
